The 1788 Senate Election in Virginia

On November 8, 1788, the legislature of Virginia chose two senators. Richard Henry Lee got 98 votes, William Grayson 86, James Madison 77, and various others 63. Lee and Grayson were duly elected.


On March 12, 1790, Grayson died. John Walker was appointed to replace him, and resigned on November 9 to allow James Monroe to take the seat.
