The 1789 House Election in Delaware
On January 7, 1789, Delaware's voters chose a single member of the House of Representatives. Five candidates ran. The results are as follows:
- John Vining (federalist) - 898 votes (43.61%)
- Rhoads Shankland (antifederalist) - 491 votes (23.85%)
- Gunning Bedford (federalist) - 308 votes (14.96%)
- Joshua Clayton (federalist) - 272 votes (13.21%)
- Allen MacLean - 90 votes (4.37%)
